Round the Bend

While sitting in a cafe, suffering the early symptoms of swine flue (apparently), I reverted to my old habit of attempting the cryptic crossword in the Brighton and Hove Argus. Now in a magazine insert, there was one clue that uses special phrases in an interesting way:

7D: This will drive you round the bend (8-5)

The clue requires a literal interpretation of 'round the bend' rather than interpreting it to mean 'mad'. This leads to the answer 'steering-wheel'.
